Ein Yael, Tekhelet Factory, Wadi Quelt, Eretz Beraishit

July 26, 2010

In addition to today being Stacy's birthday, it was another awesome day on Leora's whirlwind Bat Mitzvah Tour.

We started out our day at Ein Yael, which is a living museum filled (supposedly) with amazing workshops demonstrating how things were done in the time of the Tanach. Unfortunately many of the workshops were closed today, but the kids still enjoyed weaving and mosaic activities.

Following a delicious lunch at the Malcha Mall ( a choice between Schwarma, Burger King, and Sbarros), we headed south towards the desert to the Tekhelet Factory where we learned about the snails where the special blue dye comes from. It was very interesting...and very hot! We could not believe the temperature difference between Jerusalem and Kfar Adumim.

Next we split up. My parents, Stacy, and Jason took a ride to the Dead Sea while Yehuda and I, Seth, Collin and my kids all went to the Mabua Spring (Wadi Quelt) to cool off. After walking down a VERY steep hill, we all enjoyed the refreshing cool water and waterfalls. What a great reprieve from the extreme heat of the desert.

Finally...the highlight of the day (or of the trip) was Eretz Beraishit. We were met by Eliezer, Avraham's servant, dressed in the clothing of the times, and taken by camel to Avraham's tent. After having our hands washed from the long journey, we baked delicious pitot and then were treated to an amazing home cooked "feast." We ate sitting on cushions on the floor around low tables in Avraham's tent. So cool...
We ate our dinner overlooking the beautiful desert mountains, heard the story of Avraham and Terach and the idols, and about the map of Avraham's journey. They made a very, very big deal about Leora and the occasion of her Bat Mitzvah.

The beautiful evening ended watching the GORGEOUS full moon rise over the mountains. A more spectacular site, you will never see...

"Eliezer" gave Leora the most special bracha in honor of her bat mitzvah. It was truly a spectacular day. One that was even better shared with family....

What will tomorrow bring? How will it compare....

Happy Birthday Stacy! We hope it was a memorable one!
