Hebron, Ma'arat Ha'Machpelah and Kever Rachel
July 28, 2010
Today we switched gears and had a different kind of day. We boarded a bus to Hebron and went on a tour of the city. Its hard to believe the dedication and devotion that the Jews of Hebron have towards living there. They are surrounded by Arabs who hate them and struggle for safety and security on a daily basis.
We visited the Hebron Museum and learned about the history of the Jewish inhabitants of Hebron. We visited the Avraham Avinu shul and learned the story of how Avraham Avinu made a minyan there on Yom Kippur Eve. Then we stopped and ate pizza right outside of Ma'arat Ha'Machpelah. After davening mincha, we re-boarded the bus and proceeded on to Kever Rachel.
Yehuda and I both have not been to Kever Rachel in close to 20 years and we shocked to see that it has been turned into a fortress. It is all sealed up like Fort Knox. Pretty crazy... Exhausted and kvechy, we arrived home after a VERY full day.
After a stop at the Mitudella ice cream shop to eat ice cream while swinging...pretty cool...Leora and Elinoa packed up all of the bags for Achuzat Sarah tomorrow night.
After the boys were asleep, we went to delicious El Gauchos with Stacy, Seth and Jason. Yum!!!!
